What is Zoom! Tooth whitening?

Zoom! is a whitening system designed to lighten the discoloration of enamel and dentin in a fraction of the amount of time as store-bought solutions.

What are the Main Causes of Discoloration?

Many different things can cause discoloration, but some of the most common contributing factors are coffee, tea, or tobacco. Consumption of tetracycline during tooth formation, certain antibiotics, or too much fluoride can also cause discoloration issues.

Who can Benefit from Tooth Whitening?

Most patients can benefit from a tooth whitening procedure, but Dr. Heaton will assess your candidacy for this procedure and a shade assessment.

Is Tooth Whitening Common?

Yes. These types of tooth whitening procedures have become faster than ever and are becoming more popular among patients across the country.

Is this Procedure Safe?

Yes. Many research and clinical studies show that whitening under the supervision of a dentist is safe. Many dentists consider this procedure one of the safest procedures available at a dentist’s office. Zoom! Whitening is recommended for patients over the age of 13 as long as they are not pregnant women.

Do the results of Zoom! Whitening last a long time?

If you follow our instructions for post whitening care, you teeth will remain lighter than they were before the procedure. We offer Zoom! Whitening Toothpaste, and take-home gel which are designed to maintain the brightness of your teeth over a long period of time.

Is there any differences between over-the-counter whiteners and Zoom!?

Yes. Dr. Heaton’s whitening methods are faster than over-the-counter whitening methods and are much safer for the teeth and gums of the patient. Most store bought whiteners take weeks or months to whiten a few shades. Zoom! is clinically proven to whiten teeth eight shades in one hour in the office or six shades in one weekend at home.

How does the Zoom! In-Office Treatment Work?

Hydrogen Peroxide contained inside of the Zoom! light-activated gel allows the passage of oxygen into the enamel and dentin, actively whitening the teeth without changing the structure of the teeth. Zoom! light helps to activate the Hydrogen Peroxide and aids in the penetration of the tooth’s surface.

Are Zoom! In-Office Procedures Painful?

Not at all. Patients relax and watch television or listen to music. Many patients fall asleep during the process because they are so relaxed.

What are the side effects of Zoom! Whitening?

Some patients experience temporary tooth sensitivity to cold on the days of treatment. These symptoms shouldn’t last longer than 3 days after the completion of the treatment.

How long does the Zoom! In-Office Procedure Take?

The Zoom! In-Office Procedure takes about an hour to complete. We recommend whitening your teeth right after a professional cleaning for the best results, and it will result in less visits to our office. After the one hour bleaching session, we will rinse with a fluoride treatment for five minutes to make sure that the mouth is completely clean.

How long does the Zoom! Take-Home Whitening Take?

The Zoom! take-home gel should be applied for 4-8 hours per treatment day depending on the shade of white desired. Dr. Heaton will explain the necessary amount of time required to achieve your desired shade. The total treatment time is three nights and can be completely finished over a weekend.

How do these two systems differ?

Time is the main difference between these two systems. The Zoom! Take-Home system can be utilized in the comfort of your home, but takes a few nights to complete. The Zoom! In-Office system only takes just over an hour, but requires that the procedure be completed in our office.
